Serving London and Essex since 1929
Where it started
Harry Robins, founded Robins pie & mash who passed the business to his son William Robins. William known as ‘Binkles’ was also the largest eel supplier in East London to Clacton and Leigh-on-sea. His Robins branch was in Queens Road, Upton Park.
Binkles’ daughter, June Robins took the reins at the young age of 27 after her father’s passing and took Robins from strength to strength with the help of her Uncle Ted & Aunt Grace.
In a work era dominated and controlled by men, June stood shoulder to shoulder with them proving women could raise a family, be a wife and own & run a business. June’s 2 brothers also worked within the family business - Teddy & Billy Robins. June worked day and night for 55 years till her passing in 2019 building a legacy for us.
June’s first shop was in Queens Road Market, Green Street, Upton Park – where she was born and raised, as were her children on Shaftesbury Ave. She then went on to have a shop in High Street North, East Ham for 40 years serving generations of Local East End customers & friends. Over June's life she opened branches throughout East London & Essex to offer her famous pie and mash to all her clientele, old and new, who had moved out of East London. As well as supplying supermarkets in the UK & Overseas.
Our strength and wisdom as a family and as a business comes from the great late June Robins. June was a one of a kind, who left her mark on everyone she crossed paths with. She set the high standards back then that we still continue today. She believed in hard work, good morals and helping others within our communities. We will continue June's legacy and family name just the way she would have wanted us to.
Today, June is survived by her children & grandchildren continuing the family business with their 6 branches. Julie & her daughter, Claudia, own Romford, Chingford & Chelmsford branches with Julie’s siblings owning the other 3 branches at Southend, Basildon & Wanstead.
We only use 100% Aberdeen Angus minced beef and fresh produce from New Spitalfields market, keeping to the same recipe from nearly 100 years ago apart from slightly adapting with our Vegan pie which is super popular.
Julie, like her mum, learned to make pies at the age of 11, in Upton Park working alongside a lady pie maker called Lil Finlay. Every pie is made by hand, fresh every day still to the same technic - Which in itself is an art. We work as a team with every member of staff appreciated and valued - just like our customers.
We may be nearly a century old but we are in the 21st century with our socials & website so please follow & subscribe where you can. All of the support we receive from loyal customers old and new never goes unnoticed and we hope to continue for the next century with your custom.
